There are so many no-brainer issues; however, nothing comes close to standing up for humanitarian efforts like modern day slavery, animal rights, and the heartrending, catastrophic on-going situation in south Sudan. I am outraged that I still have to address this after doing so for almost a decade and that the majority of people are not taking a firm stand and voicing their opinions. We are all complicit in everything that happens in this universe and contribute whether we are aware of it or not. Stop being sheeple or worse yet leaving humanitarian efforts in the hands of a few. This is what happens too often. We hear about an injustice, feel bad, and then become self-absorbed leaving the burden to someone else to resolve. Be that someone else now!

Omar Al-Bashir, Sudan’s president needs to be held accountable for the violence on the Sudan children, women and men. At the very least, the world must be allowed to enter the country and bring much needed aid now.

What you can do:

Of course you can donate money to responsible charities such as Save the Children and the International Crisis Group, or organizations such as The Save Darfur Coalition, to name a few.

Pray. If you do not know how to pray, send loving energy from your heart and be grateful for a positive outcome.

If you cannot donate money, everyone can blog and/or write a heartfelt letter to their representatives, actually badger your senators until change occurs. Talk about the horrific treatment of the Sudanese people by their own government and the genocide in Darfur.

Publicly protest that our government stop being afraid of Khartoum because he “may” have aided us on the war on terror, is it really worth this?

Reach out to local Sudanese groups in your community.

“Support the people and government of Southern Sudan. A peace agreement was signed between the government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. According to the agreement, in 2011, the south will vote on whether they want to secede from the north. Most southern Sudanese favor this. The international community needs to maintain pressure on Khartoum for this to happen. If the genocide continues and Khartoum continues to annihilate its own people in Darfur, some believe the Sudanese government will not honor this agreement to allow secession of southern Sudan.
Press for punitive measures against the regime in Khartoum. The government prosecuting the genocide in Sudan is the same one responsible for two million deaths in southern Sudan. Pressure Congress to support UN sanctions on Sudanese officials and businesses, and insist the US declassifies and shares intelligence with the ICC (International Criminal Court).”
